On October 1, 2026, an H2 Showcase Day will also take place as part of the official opening of the ChargePool hydrogen refueling station in Schweitenkirchen.
Visitors can expect a practical program focused on hydrogen mobility. A live refueling demonstration will show how quickly an H2 vehicle can actually be refueled. Those interested can take a ride, including in the BMW iX5 Hydrogen, the Hyundai NEXO, or a Hyundai H2 truck (details on participating vehicles will follow shortly). The site will also demonstrate how hydrogen is produced directly at the facility via electrolysis.
Behind the refueling station is a microgrid project with on-site electrolysis: commissioned by ChargePool GmbH, a 1.2 MW H2PowerCube from H2 Powercell produces green hydrogen on site from locally generated green electricity. The green electricity flows to the truck charging stations right next door and powers the electrolysis. If the green electricity is not sufficient to meet charging demand, additional green hydrogen is converted back into electricity via the fuel cells integrated in the H2PowerCube. This creates a closed, green ecosystem on site: green electricity, green hydrogen for refueling or charging, and even the waste heat generated in the process is used to supply heat to nearby buildings. Technical planning is handled by engineering firm BEN-Tec. On the Showcase Day, visitors can view this facility directly on site.
The Showcase Day is an event by HY10 and is supported by the H2HUB Initiative and Ludwig-Bölkow-Systemtechnik GmbH (LBST).
