At the heart of the project is a 1.2 MW H2PowerCube from H2 POWERCELL GmbH. The containerized power plant uses local green electricity to produce hydrogen from renewable energy directly on site. In Schweitenkirchen, a state-of-the-art microgrid project is being developed for cross-sector energy supply:
A highly efficient waste-heat concept ensures that the process heat generated during electrolysis and re-electrification is used immediately for heating systems and domestic hot water heating in surrounding buildings—maximizing the overall efficiency of the plant. The hydrogen produced is conditioned on site for the dispensers (350/700 bar) or made available for regional distribution via an integrated trailer filling station.
The facility is an integral part of ChargePool and strengthens its infrastructure for alternative drivetrains in heavy-duty transport. Fuel cells integrated into the H2PowerCube provide grid support and serve as a backup power system—together with a battery storage system, they bear the load of two fast-charging stations for trucks, each with an output of 400 kW. By providing this high charging capacity downstream of the transformer, grid peaks are effectively avoided—thus creating an autonomous, climate-neutral infrastructure for heavy-duty transport.
Implementation is being led by Hydro Generation GmbH as the general contractor, with the technical design based largely on the work of the engineering firm BEN-Tec GmbH. As the main suppliers, Hydro Generation also coordinates Resato (filling station components) and H2 POWERCELL (H2PowerCube system including electrolysis, fuel cell, battery and storage units).
Following the issuance of all permits, construction work began in March 2026; completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
